Dragon LoopsMilestone trip report for the Our Lady of Peace Country Fair in New Providence, NJ as I’ve now done ten of them on this local fair. I really should have more as I remember having a few on the original DOD site, all the way back when Cookes Amusements did the fair…maybe they’re hanging around on one of my old hard drives, I’ll have to look.

This year the fair returned to its usual mid-May week, spanning from May 13th to the 16th. The rides were brought in by Blue Sky Amusements, and the fair had…

Scat 2 - Middlesex Fireman's FairLet’s look back at a post I made in March, it’s actually still on the front page because I’ve been updating this site at just an astounding rate this winter/early spring. In the post, I said:

“I figure my first trip to Great Adventure will be either the second week of April or Coasters After Dark. First fair is probably going to be in late April, the fireman’s carnival in Middlesex, NJ.”

Well, I didn’t make either of those Six Flags dates, and barely made this fair. This is why I don’t like to make predictions because as soon as I type them, the chances of it coming to fruition immediately drop. But, I did make it out on the final day, April 25th, to the Middlesex Fire Dept. Fair. Campy’s Amusements brought in the rides, and the fair had…

NamtabGet ready to conquer your fears in reverse as Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ announced this morning on Facebook that namtaB is coming to the park from July 4th to September 7th.

namtaB, literally Batman spelled backwards, is something Six Flags has been doing these past couple of years at various parks. For a portion of the year, the normal Batman trains are switched out with slightly modified, backwards facing trains. The first Batman ride to have this temporary modification was Batman: the Ride at Six Flags Great America in Illinois back in 2013. This year, the modified trains will be running at Six Flags Over Georgia for the first half of the season before being shipped off to Great Adventure for the July opening.

I’ll tell you what, I can’t wait to ride backwards Batman. I quite like Batman: the Ride; I think it’s really intense compared to a lot of other B&M looping or inverted coasters. Running backwards will make it just that more intense! I’m definitely going to have to make sure to get a front (back?) seat ride at some point as well.

Looking Like Spring

Hey, it’s the first day of spring! Let me look outside at all the blooming flowers, budding leaves, and wildlife scurrying around.

Snow March 20 2015

Oh…

So, Six Flags Great Adventure is going to open in two weeks but it sure doesn’t feel like the park and fair off-season is nearing a close. While updating my carnival list sites (there’s three now, NJ, PA and NY Carnivals, /shill) I couldn’t help noticing that there’s a fireman’s carnival near Philly that started this past Wednesday. Jeez…well, at least it’ll be 50 on Saturday.

Well, here’s some snow photos. It’s all I got right now! I figure my first trip to Great Adventure will be either the second week of April or Coasters After Dark. First fair is probably going to be in late April, the fireman’s carnival in Middlesex, NJ.

Action Park

SkyCalibreThe LA Times is reporting that Action Park waterpark (formerly Action Park, then Mountain Creek Waterpark, then back to Action Park) in New Jersey is planning to build the first SkyCalibre looping waterslide offered by the collaboration of Sky Turtle and Avalanche Waterslides.

SkyCalibre is being touted as the world’s first waterslide to have a vertical loop, but we know better. Action Park built a vertical looping waterslide in the 80s called Cannonball Loop, but it wasn’t exactly the safest thing in the world. SkyCalibre, on the other hand, has riders encapsulated in a “raft vehicle” that ensures riders don’t make contact with the actual slide, negating the main complaints of scrapes and gashes thanks to Cannonball Loop’s rudimentary design. I guess it can be said that SkyCalibre would be the first waterslide to safely perform a vertical loop.
