I took my final trip trip down to Six Flags Great Adventure on Friday the 19th. I had went three times prior so I’m happy that I got my money’s worth out of the season pass. I arrived at the park at about 6pm (5:30 opening) which is pretty good considering I’m pitifully late to anything that doesn’t have a set time. I saw that the park was pretty empty so I made a bee-line for Kingda Ka first, before the crowds did. I got to the entrance and was greeted by an attendant saying that the ride was down due to a mechanical issue. What a surprise!

Lead Ticket Awards 2012 Results

Well that went by…actually pretty slowly. That’s a first! Usually as we age things go by much faster. The time between the 2011 and 2012 Lead Tickets went by extremely quickly but the time from opening the 2012 poll to its close felt like forever!

I want to thank everyone for voting in the 2012 edition of the Lead Ticket Awards, it really cannot be done without your participation! I also want to thank Screamscape for linking the awards and giving it some exposure! So who won a big ol’ leaden ticket this year? Let’s find out!

I had not been to Coney Island in literally years so I decided that I’d head over one Sunday before the area’s parks closed for the season. I also decided to make this a dual trip, stopping at the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy on the way down to Coney. To get into the city I took the bus from Union, NJ to Port Authority near Times Square. Once in I milled around the Times Square area for a few minutes looking up like a true tourist.

I eventually made my way to the subway and had the option of taking the N, Q or R down to Canal St. in Chinatown. I ended up taking the N and was at Canal in maybe 10 minutes. The festival, in its 88th year now, is pretty much a giant street fair with food, games, food, vendors, food, a few rides and food. The festival was a bit crowded but nothing like how it is on Friday or Saturday nights when Mulberry street is disgustingly crowded.

I walked to the end and back, taking in the sights and grabbing a slice of pizza along the way. Little Italy was once a sizable chunk of Manhattan but is now basically Mullberry St. with Chinatown taking the area over. I hear that Little Italy is more of an area catering to tourists nowadays with Arthur Ave up in the Bronx sometimes referred to as the “real” Little Italy. Still, it’s nice walking through Manhattan’s Little Italy and the restaurants are still pretty good (to me at least.) Although if you might want to check out Forlini’s a couple blocks away on Baxter which has great Italian food and an atmosphere that reminds me of something straight out of Goodfellas.

The Great Allentown Fair in Allentown, PA is one of the few fairs that I travel out of New Jersey to attend each year. It’s among the largest fairs I go to each year alongside the New Jersey State Fair, State Fair Meadowlands and North Brunswick Youth Sports Festival; Orange County Fair would also be on this list if I hadn’t managed to miss it every year since 2007.

I left at around 4:30pm and hopped on Rt.78 which wasn’t as crowded as I expected at that point. Usually it’s easy getting to this fair taking the normal exit off 78 into Allentown but thanks to a bridge in Allentown thats being perpetually worked on I took a strange route that led me down Rt. 22. Some guy in an SUV rode my ass for most of the way down Rt.22 despite me going over the speed limit; some people man. I arrived at the fair entrance at around 6pm and found that it had a pretty similar lineup to last year with Powers Great American Midways running the midway. The fair had…

It’s that time of the year again! After the Golden Tickets have been compiled and the winners have been announced, it’s time to start voting for the nadir of the amusement industry! The Lead Tickets are currently in their FOURTH year and are coming off an incredibly impressive turnout in 2011 that saw nearly 300 votes cast; that’s pretty good for this little site! This was of course thanks in part to the many coaster and theme park websites that shared the link. So, who’s going to win a nice fat leaden ticket this year? Well, you have to vote for us to find out!

A few things to go over before filling out the ballot:

The Rules

  1. Voting ends October 1st, 2012 at 11:59PM EST (23:59UTC)
  2. You may choose from any park or attraction in the world.
  3. Please only choose from currently operating parks/attractions.
  4. When typing in your choice, please use the full name of the park/attraction. For example, instead of typing “Great Adventure” please type “Six Flags Great Adventure;” or instead of “TTD” type “Top Thrill Dragster.”
  5. If choosing an attraction with a common name, please put the park name after it. For example, if you choose something like “Viper,” please write it as “Viper six flags magic mountain.”

Have fun voting!  The results will be posted in mid-October so make sure to swing by to see who won lost!
