I found a Flickr gallery entitled “The Destruction of Coney Island and Astroland” linked at the Coney Island Message Board documenting the removal of rides at Astroland Amusement Park in Coney Island, NY. As we all know by now, Astroland was bought up by developer Joe Sitt and after getting a one year repreive in 2008, was closed for good this past year. Since then many of the rides have been packed up and loaded onto flatbeds, Astroland signs have been taken down, and even the famous Astroland rocket has been removed from it’s building top home. The gallery has over 100 photos now and continues to grow every few days or so.
According to ‘Pablo57,’ the creator of the gallery, the photos have been getting some mixed receptions with some believing that it’s an important documentation of the end of Astroland; while others are disregarding it as “destructoporn.” I myself tend to lean towards the former, but you can be the judge.

Aww that’s pretty bad I feel like I wanted to curse all those people that had to do with! It has been a part of my fondest of childhood memoirs. My kids won’t live to see that now.
